This  recipe is easy to make and it is a  healthy and delicious snack  for both children and adults. Kids love wraps. They are tasty, easy to hold, store well and provide a healthy alternative for an enjoyable snack at home or on the move.  And kids enjoy making wraps themselves. It is fun for them to experiment with filling in different ingredients and then rolling them up.

This fruitastic sandwich was created by a Damascus colleague. She has two children, and she often uses bread from Damascus to make inventive sandwiches that her kids love. This one was a particular hit with her family. If you have a craving for a sweet wrap, this is a tasty  mix of fruit and chocolate – an enticing combination of banana and cherry surrounding a layer of chocolate hazelnut spread. Delightful!

You also could make it more elaborate by adding banana slices caramelized in butter with brown sugar. This combination also makes a fabulous snack but it has more calories.  It is so good!

Ingredients for 1 serving

1 Damascus Roll-up

1 ripe but firm banana

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

½ cup brown sugar (only needed if you choose to caramelize banana)

3 fresh cherries, pits removed, sliced

1 tablespoon Nutella (chocolate hazelnut spread)

200g vanilla ice cream (a small tub is more than enough)

Cinnamon, for sprinkling


1. Peel banana and slice it on the diagonal into 4-5 pieces.

2. If you  want to caramelize the banana, heat a large non-stick pan over medium heat with one tablespoon of  butter. Coat banana slices with sugar and add them to pan once butter is sizzling.  Gently turn pieces carefully with 2 spoons, until banana slices are golden.   Transfer to a plate (cool pan, then fill with water; the sugar will easily lift off).

If you don’t want to caramelize the banana, simply cut them and move on to the next step (you don’t need to coat in sugar).

3.  Spread Nutella generously over a Damascus Roll-up.  Put banana and cherry slices in the center of each roll-up.  Roll the wrap up, slice it on the diagonal and arrange on plates. Dust with cinnamon and add small scoops of ice cream (if you want) and serve.
