There are many ways to eat goji berries, probably as many as you can think of, but they are not always easy to find.  If you have a health food store near you, you might be able to find dried goji berries, but they are not as easy to find as you might think.  Goji berries can be ordered online and you can get as much as you desire.  Keep in mind that goji berries are only sold in their dried form.  Unless you are in China during the harvesting season it is unlikely you will be able to get fresh goji berries.  The fruit is also referred to as wolfberries and they grow in Asia and part of Europe.  Goji berries are mostly found on the market in two varieties Himalayan and Tibetan berries, but they are both so similar that any differences are negligible .

The actual health benefits of goji berries are still disputed, but even on the lowest end of the spectrum they are high in vitamins and nutrients.  There are some studies that show goji berries can help to prevent cancer and help with other diseases, not only in prevention but in curing.  One of the best health benefits of goji berries are for the eyes.  Gojis are proven to have high amounts of carotenoids, which have been proven to prevent cataracts and macular degeneration.  This fruit is very high in vitamin C and gojibar other antioxidants.

So once you have them what do you do with them?  Here are a few ways to incorporate goji berries into your routine.

  • Goji berries can be used just like raisins.  You can add them to oatmeal, cookies, or just eat them straight.  They can also be added as a topping for yogurt and ice cream.
  • If you want plumper berry heat them in a bowl of water in the microwave for one minute and then let them sit there for about ten minutes.  This will help to reconstitute the berries and make them closer to what they would have been like when they were ripe.
  • Goji juice is a popular way to get the health effects of the berries.  Juice is found in many grocery stores and health food stores.
  • Tea is a great way to get the antioxidants that goji berries have to offer.  The berries can be used to make hot or cold tea my steeping them for fifteen minutes before drinking.
  • Adding goji berries in soup is a traditional Chinese way to goji berries.  You can mash them or blend them before putting them into the soup.
  • Goji berries can also be added to trail mix.  The berries have a nutty flavor and not a fruity flavor so adding the berries to the trail mix will add another nutty taste to any trail mix.

Getting goji berries in your diet is a great way to try a new fruit that is high in vitamins your body needs.  The jury is still out on whether the berries have any miracle curing properties or not, but getting a full days value of vitamins is never a bad thing.
